1. Who we are
MatchMyAcres is a business name of Michael Scott Land Company LLC, a Michigan limited liability company (Michigan ID 802372552) ("we," "us"). Contact: 2473 Collendale Drive, Commerce Township, MI 48382 · hello@matchmyacres.com · (269) 281-4450. We currently serve landowners in Michigan and Indiana.
2. What we collect
Information you give us:
- name, phone number, and email;
- property address (optional), county, state, and parcel ID(s) (optional);
- approximate acreage, current use, ownership type, and distance to power lines;
- project types you're interested in, timing, and your terms (for example, acres to exclude, drainage tile, harvest timing, keeping farming, minimum payment);
- free-text notes, and how you heard about us;
- your contact preferences and consent records (what you agreed to, when, and which form version), and which developers you approved.
Waitlist (outside Michigan and Indiana): email, state, county, and, only if you check the box, your email opt-in with its wording and timestamp. See §5B.
Collected automatically: standard request logs kept by our hosting and security provider, Cloudflare (IP address, browser/user agent, pages requested, referring page, and time of visit), used for security, troubleshooting, and spam prevention. Map and ZIP searches run in your browser, and we don't store them. We do not currently use cookies, analytics, or advertising trackers. See §5A.
We don't knowingly collect Social Security numbers, bank or card numbers, or driver's license numbers. Please don't send them to us.
3. How we use it
We use your information to:
- review your profile;
- contact you, if you've agreed;
- show subscribing developers an anonymous Limited Profile, and share your identifying information only with a developer you approve for a specific project (see §4);
- introduce you to developers you approve;
- keep records of your consent and approvals;
- secure and improve the Service;
- comply with the law.
4. Who we share it with
- Developers. Developer subscriptions are not open yet. Until they open, we do not share any profile information with any developer. The rest of this section describes how sharing will work once they open.
- Developers: before approval. Subscribing developers may see only an anonymous Limited Profile that you publish: (a) state; (b) county; (c) acreage as a range only (under 50, 50–100, 100–250, 250–500, or 500+ acres); (d) the project types the owner is open to (solar, wind, storage, transmission); (e) the deal types the owner is open to (lease, easement, option, sale); (f) a general timeframe; and (g) a statement that the profile is owner-published. Before approval, developers never see your name, phone, email, mailing or property address, parcel IDs, township/section, exact acreage, free-text notes, or any rate, price, or terms the owner mentioned. Small-county guard: if a county has fewer than 3 active profiles in an acreage range, we widen the range or show the state only, so that a profile can't be traced to a particular owner.
- Developers: after approval. Approval is per developer and per project. You see which developer is asking and for which project, and then you decide. Only then do we share your contact details and the property information you provided with that developer, for that project only. The developer portal isn't built yet, so for now we share Limited Profiles and approved information manually (for example, by email).
- Service providers that process data for us under confidentiality obligations: Cloudflare (website hosting on Cloudflare Workers, security, and request logs) and Google (Google Apps Script and a private Google Sheet where form submissions are stored). We do not use a CRM or other database.
- Legal and safety: when the law requires it, or to protect rights, safety, or the Service.
- Business transfer: a successor, if our business is sold or merged, subject to this Policy.
We do not sell your personal information. We do not currently charge developers. When developer access opens, developers will pay us a flat subscription or advertising fee for platform access. That fee won't be tied to any deal or to any individual's data.
Our agreements require developers to use your information only for the approved project, not to sell or share it, to protect it, and to delete it within 30 days after you ask or after they stop pursuing your land.
5. Maps
We never show your name, parcel, address, or location publicly. Public pages show only county-level information from public sources, and any landowner-interest totals are rounded and hidden below a minimum number of landowners.
5A. Cookies, analytics, and third-party services
Cookies and analytics. Our website does not set cookies, and it does not use browser storage (localStorage or sessionStorage). It uses no analytics, advertising, or social-media tracking scripts, and no third-party fonts or content delivery networks. All scripts on the site are our own, plus a copy of the open-source Leaflet map library that we host ourselves.
Hosting and request logs (service provider). Our site runs on Cloudflare Workers. Cloudflare processes every request to the site. Under its default logging, it records request data such as your IP address, browser/user agent, the page requested, the referring page, and the time. We use this data only for security, troubleshooting, and preventing abuse.
Map tiles (third party). When you use the "Near You" map, your browser loads map images directly from the OpenStreetMap Foundation's tile servers (tile.openstreetmap.org). This sends the Foundation your IP address, browser/user agent, the address of the page you're viewing (the "referer"), and the map tile coordinates you load, which show the area you are viewing. The OpenStreetMap Foundation is an independent third party, not our service provider. Its handling of that data is governed by its own Privacy Policy (https://osmfoundation.org/wiki/Privacy_Policy) and Tile Usage Policy (https://operations.osmfoundation.org/policies/tiles/). We don't send the Foundation your name, contact details, or anything you type into our forms. If you'd rather not contact its servers, don't open the map.
Form processors (service providers). When you submit a form, it is sent through Cloudflare to Google Apps Script. Apps Script saves it in our private Google Sheet. These providers process it only on our behalf.
5B. Out-of-state waitlist
What we collect. Our waitlist form for people outside Michigan and Indiana collects only your email, state, and county, plus an optional checkbox that starts unchecked: "Email me once if MatchMyAcres starts serving my state." If you check the box, we log the exact checkbox wording and the date and time you agreed. The waitlist doesn't ask for your phone number, parcel, acreage, or terms. Please don't send them.
Why. We use the waitlist only to gauge interest in other states and, if you opted in, to send you a single email.
No sharing. Waitlist entries are stored in a separate, restricted tab of our private Google Sheet. We never share them with developers in any form, including counts or other aggregate figures. Nick Merry's separate land-agent work does not use them. Our service providers (Cloudflare and Google; see §5A) process waitlist entries only to run the form.
The one email. If we start serving your state after attorney review, and only if you opted in, we'll send you one notice. It will identify MatchMyAcres (Michael Scott Land Company LLC) accurately as the sender, include our postal address (2473 Collendale Drive, Commerce Township, MI 48382), and include a working unsubscribe link or reply option. We'll honor an unsubscribe within 10 business days. We don't send any other marketing to waitlist entries.
Retention and deletion. We delete each waitlist entry 12 months after signup, or sooner if you ask. To leave the waitlist or delete your entry, email hello@matchmyacres.com or use the unsubscribe link. We'll delete your entry and confirm.
6. Calls and texts
Consent to calls and texts is optional and starts unchecked. We contact you by call or text only if you agree, and a developer contacts you that way only if you separately agree for that developer. Reply STOP to opt out of texts, or email hello@matchmyacres.com or tell us any other reasonable way. We'll honor opt-outs promptly. We keep a "do not contact" record so we respect your choice. See our Terms, §8.
7. How long we keep it
- Waitlist entries: deleted 12 months after signup, or sooner on request (§5B).
- Profiles: up to 24 months after our last contact with you. At about 12 months without activity, we may ask whether you're still interested. After 24 months we delete your profile or anonymize it to county and approximate acreage, unless you ask us to delete it sooner.
- Consent, opt-out, and approval records: kept for 5 years to show compliance with calling and texting laws.
- Records required for tax, accounting, or legal purposes: as the law requires.
8. Your choices and how to delete your data
You can ask us to see, correct, or delete your information, withdraw from the platform, or stop calls and texts. Here's how it works:
- Email hello@matchmyacres.com (or call (269) 281-4450) with your request.
- We'll verify it's you, usually by confirming from the email or phone on your profile.
- We'll complete your request within 30 days and tell you when it's done.
- We'll tell any developer you approved to delete your information.
- We keep only a minimal record (for example, a hashed phone number or email and the date) so we don't contact you again, plus any records the law requires us to keep.
Indiana residents: The Indiana Consumer Data Protection Act (IC 24-15, effective January 1, 2026) applies to a business that, in a calendar year, controls or processes personal data of at least 100,000 Indiana consumers, or at least 25,000 Indiana consumers while getting more than 50% of gross revenue from selling personal data (IC 24-15-1-1). Based on our size, we don't expect to meet those thresholds at this time. Even so, we voluntarily honor requests to confirm, access, correct, delete, or get a copy of your personal data, as described above. If we decline a request, you may appeal by emailing hello@matchmyacres.com with "Appeal" in the subject line, and we'll respond within 60 days.
Michigan residents: Michigan doesn't currently have a comprehensive consumer privacy law that applies to us. We provide the same choices described above.
9. Security and breach notice
We limit access to your information to people who need it. We use protected storage with restricted sharing and two-factor authentication, and we limit what goes in notification emails. No system is perfectly secure. If a security breach involving your personal information occurs, we'll notify you and the authorities as required by law, including Michigan's Identity Theft Protection Act (MCL 445.72) and Indiana's disclosure-of-security-breach law (IC 24-4.9). We may also notify you voluntarily when the law doesn't require it.
10. Children
The Service is not for anyone under 18, and we don't knowingly collect information from children.
11. Changes
We'll post updates here with a new effective date. For material changes, we'll notify you by email.
