Landowner FAQ
Always free for landowners. Developer access, by flat subscription, is opening soon.
Does this cost me anything?
It's free for landowners. You never pay MatchMyAcres anything. Developers will pay a flat subscription once developer plans open. Landowners never pay. That fee is the same whether or not you, or anyone, ever signs a lease, easement, option, or sale. We don't get paid more when a deal happens, and we take no commission, success fee, or share of any payment to you. Our fee is not a deduction from, or a line item in, any payment to you. We don't set or control what a developer offers you, so compare offers and get your own advice.
Am I committing to anything by filling out the form?
No. The form just starts a conversation. You can say no at any point, for any reason.
Who sees my information?
We do. We only share your details with a developer after you say it's okay. We never sell your information.
What kinds of payments do landowners get?
It depends on the project, location, acreage, and the market. It might be an annual lease payment, an easement payment, or a purchase price. We can't promise any rate or that you'll get an offer. We don't value land or advise on offers, so compare offers and get your own advice.
Can I keep farming?
Often yes. With wind, you farm around the turbines and access roads. Some solar projects allow grazing, and leases usually let you farm the land until construction starts. Battery, gas, and data center sites typically use a smaller, set-aside area. And if keeping the rest in production matters to you, put it in your terms up front.
How long do these leases last?
Solar and wind leases commonly run 20–40 years, sometimes with extension options. There's usually an early study or option period first, often a few years, while the developer decides whether to build.
What happens when the project ends?
Most leases require the developer to remove the equipment and restore the land, and many counties require a decommissioning plan or bond. Read this section closely with your attorney.
Do I have to sell my land?
Usually not. Most wind, solar, and storage deals are leases, so you keep ownership. Data center and some power plant projects are more often purchases. You choose what you're open to.
What about taxes, my mortgage, or farmland preservation programs?
These matter, and every situation is different. We aren't attorneys or tax advisors, and nothing on this site is legal or tax advice. We encourage you to have an attorney and tax professional review any agreement before you sign.
Which states do you serve?
Michigan and Indiana only; MatchMyAcres does not accept landowners, parcels, or projects located in any other state.
Are you my agent?
We are not a real estate broker, salesperson, agent, or attorney, and we do not represent you or any developer. We introduce. You decide.
What if my neighbors aren't interested?
That's okay. Many projects, especially solar and storage, can work on a single property. Developers decide whether a single property works for their project.
